How to use another webcam instead of the computer’s own webcam?

I bought a Toshiba laptop with a webcam already on it, but I didn’t like the quality of the camera capture. So I bought a new camera and installed it.
But whenever I try to start the new camera, the webcam of the computer starts. How can I use my own webcam and not the webcam of the computer?

Thats because the laptop’s webcam is the default on whatever software you are using. If you are using AIM or Yahoo! or MSN Live Messenger, you need to go under the options of the camera settings and tell the program which camera is your default. Until you do this, you will continue to get the laptop’s cam coming up everytime you want to use it.
Try this windows tab—>Run–>Devmgmt.msc–> itshows Device manager. diable ur webcame that u don’t want it to use. you can identify webcam by name right!
Do as BigPopa says and if that does not work. Start/RUN/type sysdm.cpl enter key/hardware tab/device manager/look in Sound Video and Game controllers find the onboard camera/right click it thyen click DISABLE. If you can do this when you are finished and want to use the CAM agian just right click it and click ENABLE.
